Roiboss is a member of the legume family of plants and is used to make herbal tea. Rooibos is only grown in a small area in the Cederberg region of the West Cape Province. As the tea oxidizes the distinctive red color is produced, however unprocessed "green" rooibos is also grown. The flavor of rooibos tea is light, sweet and slightly nutty. Preparation of rooibos tea is essentially the same as black tea; only the flavor will be enhanced by longer brewing. Rooibos is caffeine free and is a very popular health tonic for adults and infants; it contains large amounts of antioxidants to slow the aging process and boost the immune system. It can relax muscle spasms and colic, helps with insomniaand is packed with minerals.
